Urban regeneration schemes

Antiques Triangle
Pierhead’s biggest urban regeneration challenge to date - remodelling and restoring the Antiques Triangle in Birkenhead - was completed in April 2002.

The historic Grade II listed buildings on the approach to the Queensway Tunnel in Birkenhead underwent a radical £6.7m transformation during a four-phase re-development period, with financial backing from the Housing Corporation, Single Regeneration Budget, European Regional Development Fund and private finance raised by Pierhead.

In conjunction with English Heritage, the façade of the heavily ornamented stone buildings was painstakingly retained and restored whilst inside the buildings have been completely reconstructed to create 54 contemporary, bright and spacious one and two bedroom apartments.

With the aim of sustaining the renaissance of the Birkenhead, the apartments have been let to key workers from the local area.

Additionally, at ground floor level, 12 commercial units have been created, adding a further 13,000 square feet of commercial accommodation to the Hamilton Quarter of Birkenhead.

The redevelopment of this outstanding Grade II listed building was completed in March 2002 and is now a highly visible icon development for Birkenhead.

Dovecot Parade
Dovecot Parade, built in the 1930s and a design icon of its time has more recently suffered the effects of urban decline.

Pierhead Housing, in conjunction with the local community and shopkeepers, Eastern Link, the Housing Corporation and the North West Development Agency, is well on the way to restoring this design classic to its former glory and in the process revitalising the heart of the local community.

With significant funding from the Housing Corporation and the North West Development Agency, this £4 million flagship scheme started on site in August 2001 and work is now almost complete, on refurbishing the shops to provide modern and light commercial accommodation.

Below, the maisonettes have been remodelled into a mixture of 40 one and two bedroom contemporary apartments. Outside, improvements have been made to the local environment, including better street lighting and car parking.

There has been significant demand for the flats, which fill a gap in rented accommodation in the area, and considerable interest in the remaining commercial units.

If you are interested in renting one of the newly refurbished shop units, please contact us (more information can be found in the commercial lettings section of the website).
