How to pay your rent

Your rent is due weekly in advance, unless you have made another arrangement with the Housing Officer.

Swipe Cards
After you sign up for your tenancy you will be sent a swipe card which can be used to make rent payments at any Post Office, Payzone or Paypoint outlet.

You will not be charged to make a payment and you will be issued with a receipt when you have made your payment. You should keep this receipt as proof of payment.

You can pay by cheque or cash but any cheques paid at the Post Office must be made payable to ‘Post Office Counters Limited’.

  • If you receive full Housing Benefit keep the card in a safe place, as you may need it in the future.
  • If you move house you will be sent a new swipe card within a few days of moving.
  • If you move to another landlord or buy a property you should carry on using your card to pay off any arrears which you may owe.
  • If you lose your card you must contact Pierhead Housing Association immediately and we will order you a replacement.

Paying by Standing Order and Direct Debits
from your Bank account

If you have a bank account or Post Office Giro account you may find it more convenient to pay monthly by Standing Order or Direct Debit. You can request a form here

If you are going to cancel a Standing Order, you should tell your Housing Officer before you do so. If you have any problems we will be happy to help.

Paying by Post
Cheques and postal orders should be crossed “Account payee only” and made payable to ‘Pierhead Housing Association Ltd’. Please write your name, address and tenant reference on the back of the cheque or postal order

Paying at the Office
Rent can be paid at the office using your swipe card. We are happy to accept cash, cheques or postal orders.

Paying over the internet
In the interests of security, we are unable to accept rent payments on this website. However, you can make rent payments if you have your swipe card at www.allpay.net. The Allpay website accepts payments from all major credit and debit cards.

Housing Benefit – money off rent
Many tenants could be entitled to Housing Benefit. The amount of the benefit depends on your income, size of your family and the amount of rent you pay.

If your income or family circumstances change, it is important that you notify the Housing Benefit Office immediately. Application forms are available from the Association or the Housing Benefit Office.

It is very important that you complete a Housing Benefit Renewal Form every year for your rebate to continue.

If you fail to do this, your Housing Benefit will be stopped and you will, subsequently, be responsible for arrears occurring on your rent account.
The Housing Benefit Office pay benefit from the date the form is received by them, so do not delay the return of new forms you receive.

We would prefer your Housing Benefit to be paid Direct to the Association, if you agree to this, your Housing Officer will be happy to arrange this for you.
